Executive Summary

Core Insight: Why build the feature "Strategy"?

While millions of investors consume financial content daily, they lack a frictionless path to translate that knowledge into action. The cognitive load of setting up a trading plan from scratch is too high. To bridge this gap, I designed a seamless ecosystem that turns passive consumption into automated, actionable habits.

Solution

Feature 1: AI-Powered Discover Feed

From Content to Action in One Tap

Designed a TikTok-style financial video feed designed for organic growth. Instead of just watching, users can utilize AI to extract key insights and generate a personalized trading strategy directly from any video, instantly lowering the barrier to entry.

Feature 2: The AI-Powered Strategy Builder & AI Monitor

Frictionless Strategy Execution

To reduce the cognitive load of traditional trading, I turned complex parameters into a simple interface using visual sliders and risk presets.

A “set-and-forget” smart alert system lets users execute strategies without constantly monitoring the market.

Feature 3: The Gamified Performance Pentagon

Actionable Reflection & Retention

Transformed passive trading into a sticky, measurable learning habit. By visualizing historical strategy performance across a 5-dimensional pentagon, users can objectively analyze their strengths and weaknesses, driving long-term retention through gamified self-improvement.

Research & Define

The Challenge

Where does the retail investor's journey break down?

Millions of investors watch financial content every day, but very few successfully translate that inspiration into real trades. I conducted user research to understand what stops them from taking action.

Identify the Opportunity

Mapping the user journey from content consumption to task abandonment revealed three major problems.

Insight 1

It’s easy to consume financial hype on social media, but it is difficult for users to turn a short video into a calculable trading strategy.

"I save so many TikToks showing exact trading strategies, but when I actually try to learn them, it’s just a wall of complex steps. There's no way I can figure out how to set it all up myself."

— Lily, 23, Investor

How might we help users turn financial short videos into actionable trading plans?

Insight 2

Confusing jargon makes it difficult for users to develop a strategy, and constant market monitoring becomes exhausting.

"The advanced settings are so confusing that I usually just give up and buy at market price. But then I have to check my phone constantly because I didn't set a safety net."

— Kevin, 28, Investor

How might we simplify the setup process so users can confidently create a trade strategy quickly?

Insight 3

Users don’t understand why they win or lose, preventing them from learning from their behavior and improving their trading skills.

"My account is up 6% this month, but honestly... I have no idea which of my decisions actually worked, or if the whole market just went up."

— David, 27, Investor

How might we connect a user's daily trading behaviors with their final outcomes, so they can continuously improve their skills?

How to Win Strategy & Success Metrics

Based on the core insights, I defined 3 strategic principles to bridge the user gaps, paired with clear success metrics to evaluate the design during testing.

I prioritized features based on user impact, defining a clear MVP to validate our core assumptions before expanding into a broader social ecosystem.

Ideation

User flow

I mapped out the complete user flow to ensure a seamless transition from discovering inspiration to generating a fully configured trading strategy.

Design Process

Feature 1: AI-Powered Discover Feed

Strategy 01, 02

Turn any financial video into an actionable strategy without breaking your scrolling flow.

Prototyping with AI (Claude Code)

I utilized Claude Code to spin up rapid, functional prototypes. This allowed me to test the actual "feel" of the interactions before committing to high-fidelity UI.

I used Claude Code to build a fully functional prototype. Testing real state changes, rather than static screens, was crucial to perfecting the background generation experience.

Feature 2: The AI-Powered Strategy Builder & AI Monitor

Set it and forget it. Translate complex trading parameters into an intuitive blueprint, and let automated alerts monitor market volatility for you.

Feature 3: The Gamified Performance Pentagon

Stop guessing why you lost. Turn dry trading history into actionable behavioral insights and visualize your growth as an investor.

Continuous Learning: Upon tapping "Mark Completed," strategies are moved to the History archive. Here, users can access their Pentagon Radar Chart, which synthesizes past performance into actionable insights, helping them refine their future setups.

Iterate

Iterate: From Lo-Fi to Pixel-Perfect

Design System

To ensure consistency as the app grows, I established a YMYC design system. This scalable foundation allows developers to quickly apply component to the app.

Next Steps

Next Steps: Empowering User-Generated Content (UGC)

The current flow is Platform-to-User. The next evolution is User-to-User. I plan to design a feature where successful users can publish their winning strategies directly as short videos. Other users can watch, rate, and one-click adopt these community-generated strategies. This will transform YMYC from a tool into a self-sustaining social financial network.

Takeaways

Takeaways & Learnings

Trust is the highest currency in FinTech: AI is powerful, but "black box" AI is terrifying when money is involved. I learned the critical importance of explainable UI showing users exactly why the AI chose certain parameters before they hit confirm.

Simplification is harder than adding features: The biggest challenge wasn't designing the strategy builder, but deciding what to hide. Progressive disclosure was my best tool to fight cognitive overload.

Impact over Pixels: Using Claude Code to test real interactions early on proved that a functional, ugly prototype teaches you more about user behavior than a beautiful, static Figma screen.
